Approach TEACHER considerations

When time is so critical, we cannot spend time writing on chalkboards - time is lost, learning is passive.

Take time to get to know the children individually.

To expand the learning base for students. Open the world to show different point of views from different types of society to bring class together to work as a whole instead of individuals.

Make sure they use the knowledge you are giving them and can apply it to everyday life.

having them online gives me the opportunity to have more interaction with the students in class as well as they can interact with each other.

giving students internet access allows them to become independent learners.

Does any type of teaching/learning become the norm & "old" after a while. Varying of styles still important. Particularly motivating when new.

We have to teach them how to multitask in an efficient way.

Situation STUDENT characteristics

They are very distractable- want to figure out a new way to engage them.

Tap into students' online time. Access them from home with engaging websites, wikis, blogs, etc.

They aren't the same humans from 50 years ago even 20 years ago.

Current Reality

Technology for technology sake will not solve the problem. It's what happens along with it.
how can technology address the learning-deeper focus

there is a great socio-economic divide- until we tackle that, we will be preparing only some of our students for the future. I need to weave this information ifor our Professional Development - focusing on learning - and the learner. We need to create a sense of urgency because our system is so slow to repsond. 1st we spin around discussing whether we agree with what is happening instead of getting to work on adapting + being visionaries. How can we develop future leaders if we do not exhibit those same characteristics?

How students use internet? How/when they access info online? What do they need to learn more of?

Applying Technology "appropriately"

How I might use this information?

When time is so critical, we cannot spend time writing on chalkboards - time is lost, learning is passive.
Show students, staff and parents to get their reaction.
Important to teach & model how to use technology.
Perplexed - currently.
To expand the learning base for students. Open the world to show different point of views from different types of society to bring class together to work as a whole instead of individuals.
This information is useful in knowing that kids need to know they are important and useful. Take time to get to know the children individually.

Make sure they use the knowledge you are giving them and can apply it to everyday life.

Tap into students' online time. Access them from home with engaging websites, wikis, blogs, etc. Use the technologies/teach them in the classroom.
You could use the first video as a discussion starter for a class. Discuss how technology has advanced, how it has impacted our societ, do the students agree with the info presented?
Technology for technology sake will not solve the problem. It's what happens along with it.

bring students into a balance of using technology to learn and have them focus on difficult concepts that require deep thought accompanied by frustration
collabrative learning is important, what is the role of technology in collabrative learning
how can this be introduced to Kindegarten or lower grades such as preschoolers
I could use that Ning or other blog type applications to allow students to collectively share their research with one another instead of being separate and doing in front of class presentations this share as you go blog environment is a time save and directly relevant
a vision of students of today "wow" brains are being rewired and learning differently
=we need to rewire our teaching to meet our kids needs.=

They aren't the same humans from 50 years ago even 20 years ago.
Using technology in the classroom to improve tech literacy. How does a student learn to use technology for purposes other than entertainment? They need direct instruction in the classroom. How can we use cellphones? Technology is comforting to these students. We have to teach them how to multitask in an efficient way. Teach them when to turn off email in order to focus on a task. Simple restrictions is not effective
I remember copying notes from the blackboard in my college science classes. I learned that content based on my memorization skills.
consider adding more media to courses, create opportunites for students to interact, learning through sharing
present problems via video- connect & relate math to real-life problems posed . blog- students respond to each other on ways to solve math problems- study hints
to continue to learn new teaching styles to involve all students of different ages.
the need to make older students see the need of using computers and technology that will be in the work force.
this info will prompt me to reformat my teaching style and have a deeper understanding of where the student is at
Share with staff -research further
"Frontline" my students need this edge. I need to know about it. They are very distractable- want to figure out a new way to engage them.
Collaboration and information access are great things but ultimately each student must learn to be able to demonstrate that learning
Is technology responsible for the prevalence of ADD, etc.?
If students need to be able to respond to change they need to think critically
The Kansas State clip admonishes faculty to change the way they teach, but in the video the presenter has the audience sitting there listening to him

What do you want to know more about?

how can technology address the learning-deeper focus
is technology a way to turn a lecture hall into a classroom
teach students how to multitask
I would very much like to learn of monitoring software to see what students are doing on the computer and ??? on Ning
I need to rethink what skills I need to teach the young kids so they can be supported in the future as they get older. Teach how to multitask and prioritize
I don't require students to copy notes in class. having them online gives me the opportunity to have more interaction with the students in class as well as they can interact with each other. Having internet on my blackberry allows me to get answers to my questions, giving students internet access allows them to become independent learners.
Does any type of teaching/learning become the norm & "old" after a while. Varying of styles still important. Particularly motivating when new.
podcasts, online discussions, media
where to find? How to archive? Tech connectivity clips- gathering applicable websites.
I have not worked with blogs or any social networking sites. My computer skills need upgrading.
how is this working for graduates?
not sure, will only use what will help students learn
there is a great socio-economic divide- until we tackle that, we will be preparing only some of our students for the future.
How can we make change happen?
use more media in teaching social skills + exercise programs. Ning - creating safe-secure social networks.
Would this technology save schools money because they would not have to buy books?
I would like a tad more direction/insights for elementary age learners.
Classrooms.
I liked how the children could multi-task, it is so important that they learn how to do this for everyday life. It's nice to see they didn't have to stick to one task at a time the way they do in a regular classroom without computers.
How students use internet? How/when they access info online? What do they need to learn more of?
Where to find clips, time to find clips, how to save them.
